Autometrics 4.0

The Car as Acquired

Before the transformation began, the owner sourced a well-preserved 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe through Bring a Trailer, an ideal foundation for what would become Autometrics 4.0.

Finished in Grand Prix White over beige leather, the car presented as a clean, largely original example of the 993 generation. Its condition reflected careful ownership, with a straight body, consistent panel fit, and an honest, usable interior that retained its original character.

The factory Cup II wheels, air-cooled M64 flat-six, and analog cockpit all remained intact, offering the kind of authenticity that made the car the right candidate for a comprehensive, high-level build.

This phase of the project was not about modification—it was about understanding the starting point. Every surface, component, and system was documented and evaluated before the first step of transformation began.

The  Details Matter.

This project begins where most people never get to look - underneath the surface.

The vehicle arrives for a comprehensive teardown, not because of a simple issue, but to address the car as a complete system. The process starts with lifting the vehicle and removing key components to expose the drivetrain, suspension, and supporting systems. What’s revealed is the foundation of performance - the mechanical heart that most owners never see.

The rear drivetrain is carefully dropped from the chassis, separating the engine and transmission assembly from the vehicle. Every connection - fuel lines, electrical harnesses, cooling components - is methodically disconnected, labeled, and preserved. This isn’t rushed work. Precision here prevents problems later.

With the drivetrain removed, the focus shifts to inspection.

Years of heat cycles, road wear, and age begin to show themselves. Components are evaluated one by one—mounting points, bushings, suspension arms, braking systems, and structural areas of the chassis. Nothing is assumed. Everything is verified.

The suspension is exposed in full, allowing for a detailed look at shocks, springs, and braking components. Brake rotors, calipers, and lines are inspected for wear and performance integrity. At this level, even minor imperfections matter.

Alongside the chassis work, the drivetrain itself is placed on a stand for closer evaluation. The engine and transmission are separated and compared, highlighting wear, condition, and areas needing attention. This is where experience matters—knowing what’s acceptable, what’s borderline, and what needs to be corrected.

Surrounding components - intake systems, exhaust routing, and ancillary parts - are laid out and reviewed. Each part tells part of the story: how the car has been driven, how it has aged, and what it needs to return to optimal performance.

Interior components, including door panels and audio systems, are also removed and inspected. This ensures that the restoration or service isn’t limited to performance alone, but extends to the overall condition and refinement of the vehicle.

As the process continues, the car is stripped down to a point where every critical system is accessible. The chassis is exposed, cleaned, and prepared. This stage is where the real value is created - because now, nothing is hidden.

This isn’t just about fixing a problem. It’s about resetting the standard.

Every step in this process reflects a commitment to doing the job the right way - not the fast way. From teardown to inspection to preparation for reassembly, the goal is simple: return the vehicle to a level of performance, reliability, and confidence that matches what it was engineered to be.

This is what goes into high-level Por4mance build.
Not guesswork. Not shortcuts.
Just process, precision, and purpose.

From Inspection to Por4mance Rebuild.

With the chassis cleaned, components restored, and every system exposed, the next phase begins with reassembly—but not in reverse. This is where refinement replaces removal.

The suspension is the first system to come back to life.

Freshly installed coilovers take center stage, bringing adjustability and performance back into the equation. Every mounting point is torqued to spec, every bushing aligned with intention. The geometry isn’t guessed—it’s set. What you’re seeing isn’t just installation, it’s calibration.

Then come the brakes.

New drilled rotors are mounted, perfectly centered and prepped for performance. The calipers—refinished in signature Porsche red—aren’t just reinstalled, they’re restored. Clean, precise, and built to perform under pressure. Lines are checked, fittings secured, and the system is prepared for the kind of braking confidence these cars are known for.

Around it all, the finer details start to come together.

Cooling components are refitted and inspected, ensuring airflow and temperature management are exactly where they need to be. Lines, hoses, and connections are routed cleanly—nothing forced, nothing overlooked. The wheel wells, once hidden behind years of use, now reflect a level of care that matches the exterior.

But the real transformation is happening on the bench.

The engine is no longer just a unit—it’s a collection of purpose-built components, laid out, inspected, and reassembled with absolute precision. The crankshaft is set into place, balanced and aligned. Rods and bearings are installed with exact tolerances. Timing chains, gears, and oiling components are reintroduced—each one critical, each one verified.

Hardware is organized, measured, and reused or replaced where necessary. Nothing goes back in without a reason.

Cylinder heads are rebuilt and prepared, valves seated, springs installed, surfaces cleaned and checked. This is where performance and reliability meet—where small details determine long-term results.

Piece by piece, the engine comes back together—not just rebuilt, but reset.

What started as a full teardown is now a controlled, methodical reconstruction. Every bolt, every component, every system is being brought back with one goal in mind: eliminate uncertainty.

Because at this level, you’re not just putting a car back together.

You’re building confidence into every mile it will drive.

This project is a full, bare-metal restoration of a classic air-cooled Porsche 911, brought back to life with the level of detail and precision it deserves.

The process began with a complete teardown, stripping the car down to its shell to properly assess and address every inch. The roof section was carefully cut, repaired, and reworked, ensuring structural integrity while eliminating any underlying corrosion. All panels, including doors, decklid, and trim components, were removed, refinished, and prepped individually for a true factory-level result.

Every surface was meticulously blocked, corrected, and primed. Attention to detail was critical here, from panel gaps and alignment to ensuring all edges, seams, and jambs were properly treated. Interior sections, door frames, and hidden areas were refinished, not overlooked, reflecting a no-compromise approach.

The car then moved into paint, where it received a full respray in a clean, classic white using high-end materials. Panels were sprayed off the car where needed to ensure complete coverage and consistency throughout. Trim pieces and grilles were refinished in contrast black, bringing back the iconic Porsche look.

Reassembly is underway with careful fitment of each component, maintaining tight tolerances and proper alignment across the entire vehicle. The transformation speaks for itself, from a stripped shell to a beautifully revived 911 that retains its heritage while benefiting from modern refinishing standards.

This is more than a paint job. It’s a proper restoration done the right way.
